Lululemon Decides to Stop Selling Bottles with Controversial Chemical

Lululemon is the latest Canadian retailer to decide to clear its shelves of bottles that contain bisphenol A. The decision will take effect in January 2008.

Bisphenol A is used in hard, clear plastic reusable bottles – including baby bottles and sippy cups. As a known hormone disruptor, bisphenol A has been associated with a number of potential health effects. You can read more about bisphenol A in our Toxic Nation Guide to Bisphenol A.

Lululemon joins Mountain Equipment Co-op in deciding to stock safer alternatives. MEC stopped selling most products that contain bisphenol A a little over a week ago.

Environmental Defence is hopeful more Canadian retailers will join with Lululemon and Mountain Equipment Co-op in getting rid of bisphenol A products from their stores.

You can help by sending a letter to the federal government calling for a ban on Bisphenol A.And, if you know a store in your neighbourhood that’s selling bottles or other products with bisphenol A, ask them to stop!

If you’ve had success getting a store to stop selling products with bisphenol A, let us know. We’ll post it on the Toxic Nation blog.
